Job summary

The Idaho Transportation Department in Preston, Idaho, is seeking a Transportation Technician Apprentice – Highway Maintenance. This is a 3- to 5-year horizontal career path with on-the-job and classroom training, including progression through a 3-step program with wage increases.

Starting wages are $21.05–$21.55 per hour, rising to $22.60, $24.14, and $25.83 at each step. A Class A CDL must be obtained within 60 days of hire, with pre-employment and random drug testing.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Experience operating vehicles with manual transmissions.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry-level traffic services activities such as snow plowing, striping, and replacing and repairing traffic signs and posts.
• Operate a variety of power tools and light and heavy highway equipment to maintain roadways, signs, bridges and other transportation facilities.
• Conduct routine inspections and field tests on construction and maintenance projects.
• Conduct sample and routine material testing.
