Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation (Richland Maintenance) seeks a skilled equipment operator to operate a standard dump truck and perform manual labor for shoulder and ditch maintenance. You’ll use other small equipment and assist in road repairs, with traffic control duties as needed.

The role requires a valid license now and CDL-A within six months, plus the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying weather conditions. Overtime and extended hours may be required.

Qualifications

• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.
• Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs and working in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate a standard dump truck for hauling materials.
• Perform manual labor for shoulder and ditch maintenance.
• Use small equipment such as an asphalt roller and concrete mixer for road and bridge repairs.
• Assist with setting up maintenance work zones and direct traffic as a flagger.
• Support emergency and inclement weather operations, including extended shifts.
• Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
