Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking an Equipment Operator to perform medium duty tasks and operate equipment on highway projects. A Class A CDL must be obtained within six months of placement, with six months of related experience preferred.

The role involves litter pickup along rights-of-way, assisting in driveway installations, and supporting emergency operations. Extended hours or night shifts may be required during hazardous weather or emergencies.

Qualifications

• Six months of related work experience or approved equivalent.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must attain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate medium duty equipment (tandem dump truck) and haul materials to and from job sites.
• Operate large rollers and other machinery for road/bridge construction, repair, and preservation.
• Pick up litter, debris, and dead animals along state rights-of-way.
• Assist in installing driveways, placing aggregates, and handling pipes.
• Support emergency and inclement weather operations; may require extended hours or 12-hour shifts.
