Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a maintenance-focused worker in Columbia to support drainage installation and maintenance projects. This role involves operating various tools, assisting with traffic control, and serving as a flagger to ensure safe work zones.

Random shifts may include long hours or 12-hour shifts, and the candidate may operate dump trucks or forklifts, lift debris, and assist in winter operations with snow removal and de-icing tasks.

Qualifications

• No minimum training or experience required for this classification.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• CDL Class A must be obtained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operates powered tools and hand tools for drainage maintenance.
• Assists with placing traffic control devices to set up work zones.
• Serves as flagger to direct traffic safely in maintenance zones.
• Operates dump truck or forklift as needed.
• Picks up litter, debris, and dead animals; snow plow and sand spreader for winter operations.
• May support emergency/inclement weather operations and extended hours.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
