Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform a wide range of road and bridge maintenance on the state highway system. Under general supervision, you will operate heavy equipment, patch road surfaces, install signs, and support vegetation management and safety tasks on site.

You may supervise a small crew, coordinate daily tasks, and contribute to emergency weather operations and on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or acceptable equivalence.
• Required valid motor vehicle operator's license.
• CDL Class A within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment (grader, backhoe, dozer, excavators) on highway maintenance.
• Lead a small crew, plan daily tasks and safety.
• Patch road bases and surfaces, install signs and driveways.
• Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections on equipment.
• Assist in emergency weather operations and on-call rotations.
