Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation Sumter Maintenance unit seeks a lead worker to install and repair traffic signs, safety devices, and pavement markings, and to set up traffic control for projects in Sumter County. You will monitor operations and assist with emergencies as needed.

Position requires at least 2 years of related experience or equivalent, a valid driver’s license on entry, and a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Qualifications

• Two years of related work experience or equivalent.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required on entry.
• Class A CDL must be attained within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Lead worker installing and repairing traffic signs and safety devices, and laying out/marking pavement markings including stop lines and crosswalks.
• Set up traffic control for projects that include mowing operations, maintenance, detours, and evacuations.
• Monitor district paint truck operations and schedule; operate a dump truck with a snow plow and sand spreader as needed.
• Assist with emergencies and other duties as assigned.
