Job summary

Tarrant County is seeking a Highway Incident Response Operator to patrol assigned routes, assist in accident scenes, and coordinate clearance with law enforcement and public safety partners. The role involves outdoor work in all weather, operating an incident vehicle, and maintaining traffic flow on busy roadways.

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, a valid Texas Driver's License, and preferred technical training in transportation or automotive fields.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in automotive repair, roadway maintenance, highway incident response or traffic control preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License, Class C or above.
  • Technical training in transportation management, traffic/incident management, engineering, highway construction or automobile repair preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to accidents/incidents on highway systems and plan action to remove the incident.
  • Communicate appropriately using phonetic alphabet and radio equipment.
  • Assist motorists with disabled vehicles and remove vehicles or motorists when needed.
  • Operate and maintain incident response vehicle per PMI policies.
  • Observe traffic control devices and report major problems.
  • Ensure safety, courtesy and regulatory compliance for a safe work environment.
  • Move litter and roadway debris to ensure a safe thoroughfare.
  • Assist in sanding bridges/roads, posting signs, and assisting public during emergencies.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
