Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks a supervisory maintenance unit lead for the Oberlin/Jennings area. You will oversee Mobile Equipment Operators, manage daily reports, orders, and materials, and ensure Highway Standards are met while coordinating emergencies as needed.

Four years of experience in road/bridge maintenance or heavy equipment operation is required. A Class A CDL is necessary, and night work may be required.

Qualifications

• Must maintain a Class A CDL license and meet all structured training requirements.
• Experience in maintenance or repair of roads, bridges, levees, or related facilities is required.
• Experience operating or maintaining heavy mobile equipment is acceptable.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THIS JOB

This position supervises a crew of personnel and manages assigned work activities in the Oberlin Maintenance Unit (D07 Jennings Maintenance/U540) and reports directly to the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent.

While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Four years of experience in the construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, levees, drainage facilities, wharfs, buildings, or grounds; OR

Four years of experience in the operation or maintenance of industrial or heavy mobile equipment.

Experience in any combination of the qualifying fields will be accepted.

Job Duties

• Supervises the Mobile Equipment Operators performing maintenance to the highways and bridges.
• Prepares daily labor and equipment report. Orders materials daily.

• Works emergencies at night.
• May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.

Position-Specific Details

The incumbent may be required to possess the following specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as maintain the following licensing:

1. Must maintain a Class A CDL license and meet all structured training requirements
2. Random drug testing is required
3. Computer skills, cell phone, and PDA knowledge for performing regular job duties
4. Night-time operations or call outs for emergencies that occur outside of normal work hours
5. Lifting of a maximum of 50 pounds will be required. Manual lifting of more than 50 pounds requires assistance

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Detail to Special Duty by a permanent DOTD employee, or Job Appointment

Work Schedule: Work hours are 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Thursday.
