Job summary

The County of Brown is seeking a skilled Highway Mechanic to maintain and repair the Brown County Highway Department fleet, including heavy-duty dump trucks, graders, and support equipment. Diesel and gas engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, hydraulics, HVAC systems, and power steering will be commonly serviced, with field work when required.

Welding and fabrication duties may be assigned; you may lead shop operations, mentor junior staff, and keep accurate records.

Qualifications

• Experience servicing heavy-duty diesel and gasoline engines.
• Ability to diagnose and repair transmissions, brakes, suspensions, hydraulics, HVAC, and power steering.
• Proficient with OEM diagnostic tools and shop equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and on-site field service as needed.
• Lead welding/fabrication tasks and support shop operations.
• Maintain records and assist with inventory and safety programs.
