Job summary

Yamhill County is seeking a Mechanic to perform skilled equipment repair work on gas and diesel engines, transmissions, and road maintenance gear. You will diagnose mechanical problems using testing equipment and work under the Fleet Manager's supervision to ensure quality and timely repairs.

The role includes preventative maintenance, welding/fabrication as needed, and occasional in-field service calls. You will maintain records and work with hazardous materials while contributing to a safe,

Qualifications

• Diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs on gas and diesel engines and transmissions.
• Maintain and repair heavy equipment and road maintenance gear.
• Test drives and inspect vehicular systems to verify repairs.
• Work in adverse weather conditions and assist Road Crew as needed.
• Maintain records of parts, supplies, and work production.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic evaluations, repairs, and preventive maintenance on engines, transmissions, suspensions, and electrical systems.
• Inspects and replaces valves, pistons, and fuel/exhaust systems where needed.
• Directs and participates in removal, overhaul, and replacement of engines.
• Responds to service calls in the field and tests repaired equipment.
• Maintains clean and safe work area and tracks parts orders.
