Job summary

Kenosha County is seeking a skilled Mechanic for the Highway Division to perform repairs and maintenance on a fleet of trucks and heavy equipment. The role includes diagnosing engine, electrical, hydraulic systems and performing routine maintenance, welding, and fabricating as needed.

Mechanic I/II levels depend on experience; CDL training is offered at no cost. Work hours typically 6:00 AM–4:00 PM, with seasonal shift variations and overtime as required by workload and weather.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Mechanic I: 3 years training/experience in gasoline and diesel engine repair.
• Mechanic II: 5+ years heavy equipment repair experience; ASE cert preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair engines, drive trains, electrical and hydraulic systems on heavy trucks and equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance and welding/fabrication as needed.
• Identify parts and materials for repairs; coordinate with supervisor.
• May supervise other mechanics and handle on-call service.
