Job summary

Milwaukee County DOT - Highway Maintenance Department is seeking an Electrical Mechanic (DOT) to maintain, construct, and repair electrical systems for highway operations. Position requires troubleshooting complex circuits, operating specialized equipment, and following strict safety protocols in demanding environments including heights, confined spaces, and moving traffic.

Qualifications

Wisconsin resident required.
Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License; Class B CDL with no air brake restriction within six months.
High School Diploma or GED.
State of Wisconsin Master Electrician or Journeyman Electrician License required.
Basic computer/word processing skills.
Familiarity with mapping software including GIS.
Ability to be on call and work flexible schedules.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, and repair electrical power, transmission, lighting, communication signal, alarm systems, traffic signals, instruments, apparatus, and associated equipment.
Execute circuit repairs, terminate and splice high voltage cables, resolve circuit issues, and install motors and remote equipment.
Maintain, repair, and install electrical cabinets with emphasis on motor controls and automated sequence controls.
Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, specifications, and diagrams.
Utilize tools specific to the electrical trade for component construction and repair.
Operate CDL-rated power lift boom trucks safely at elevated heights and in confined spaces.
Comply with local and national codes as well as established safety standards.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
