Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Task Leader to support and lead the technical delivery of highway design projects in the New England region, combining hands‑on design with growing leadership responsibilities.

The role can be based in Boston, MA; East Hartford, CT; or Manchester, NH with hybrid work flexibility, and requires PE licensure and 10 years of related experience, CAD/OpenRoads expertise, and travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering.
• Professional engineer (PE) license.
• 10 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of highway design tasks from concept through PS&E.
• Develop and review roadway alignments, design criteria, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Provide day‑to‑day technical oversight to ensure quality, schedule, and budget objectives are met.
• Mentor and review work performed by junior engineers; provide technical guidance and support.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Project Technical Leaders on complex DOT projects.
• Review designs for compliance with federal, state, and local standards; sign and seal documents, as required.
• Perform site reviews and field studies to support constructible, real‑world design solutions.
• Support proposal and task order efforts, including scope development and technical review.
