Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking enthusiastic Civil Engineering students for a Summer 2027 internship in the Highway Engineering team in Lansing, MI. You will gain hands-on experience in highways, roadways, and transportation engineering alongside experienced professionals.

Responsibilities include assisting with CAD tasks, basic calculations, and support on road design projects. This program includes networking, education resources, and potential future opportunities within the firm.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related program.
• Interest in roadway and highway/traffic design preferred.
• Must have reliable transportation to the office.
• Basic understanding of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred.
• Completed coursework in Transportation Engineering preferred.
• Possess solid problem‑solving skills.
• Must be able to work in a high‑paced environment.
• Strong computer literacy, to include MS Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for job communications.

Responsibilities

• Assist technical staff with day‑to‑day design tasks for transportation projects.
• Perform basic engineering functions including CAD, calculations, and cost estimating under supervision.
• Develop roadway, sidewalk, and intersection designs including roundabouts and signals.
• Prepare simple engineering designs and technical data for completion and accuracy.
• Assist with project tasks such as permit applications, material testing, drawings, and CAD work.
• Visit projects under construction and support field reconnaissance with supervision.
• Participate in internship programming and networking opportunities.
