Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Hamilton, NJ is seeking Civil Engineering students for Summer 2027 to join our Highway Engineering team. You will work on highways, roadways, and transportation projects alongside experienced professionals on real assignments.

This internship provides hands-on design tasks, CAD work, field reconnaissance, mentorship, and opportunities to learn about multiple areas of the business, with pathways to full-time offers after graduation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related program.
• Interest in roadway and highway/traffic design preferred.
• Must have reliable transportation to the office.
• Basic understanding of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation preferred.
• Completed coursework in Transportation Engineering preferred.
• Possess solid problem‑solving skills.
• Must be able to work in a high‑paced environment.
• Strong computer literacy, to include MS Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job‑related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

• Assist technical staff with day‑to‑day design tasks for various types of transportation and traffic projects.
• Conduct basic engineering functions including computer‑aided design, calculations and cost estimating under the direct supervision of senior engineers and managers.
• Develop roadway, sidewalk, intersection design, including roundabouts, traffic signals, interchanges, and other highway infrastructure.
• Demonstrate the ability to prepare low‑level complexity general engineering designs and/or technical data for completion and accuracy.
• Assist with other project related tasks such as permit applications, material testing, drawings and CAD work.
• Visit projects under construction and assist with field reconnaissance under the supervision of a senior engineer or project manager.
