This series exists to provide and preserve a safe and efficient transportation system for the traveling public, while being courteous, considerate, and prompt in serving the public. Positions will be assigned based on experience and qualifications listed below.
Highway Operations Worker: $18.19 Grade 14
Entry-level position responsible for operating motorized vehicles and equipment, pavement care, landscape care, roadside shoulder restoration, signing and striping, delivering equipment and materials, environmental compliance, and vehicle/equipment care.
Highway Operations Tech 1: $20.46/hr. Grade 17
Apprentice role, trained to perform advanced duties including operation of vehicles and equipment, pavement and landscape care, roadside restoration, signing and striping, delivery of materials, environmental compliance, and vehicle maintenance.
Highway Operations Tech 2: $22.45/hr. Grade 18
Responsible for intermediate highway duties and supervising staff, including scheduling, inspecting, training, and guiding subordinates.
Highway Operations Tech 3: $24.44/hr. Grade 19
Full journey classification with responsibilities for high-level highway operations and supervision, including overseeing work, inspecting, and training staff.
Candidates should have relevant roadway/highway experience, with requirements increasing from 6 months for Highway Worker to 3 years for Tech 3. Valid Arizona CDL (Class A) with tanker endorsement required prior to start date. Employees must obtain their CDL within specified timeframes.
Registration with FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse required. Must respond to emergency calls 24/7, lift/carry 50 lbs., and operate a vehicle as an essential function. All new hires must complete E-Verify.
Mandatory participation in the Arizona Retirement System (ASRS).
