Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a qualified project inspector supervisor to oversee highway and bridge construction projects. You will supervise inspectors, review reports, and coordinate inspection requirements with project engineers.

This role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, one year of engineering or construction management experience, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must have a degree as listed and one year of related work experience.
• Physical ability for extended periods and hazardous conditions.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Manages projects of moderate complexity.
• Supervises inspectors in highway and bridge construction projects.
• Reviews reports, estimates, and final plans produced by subordinates.
• Coordinates project inspection requirements with project engineers and chief technician.
• Monitors project QA/QC, erosion control and traffic control activities for compliance.
• Meets with the public, contractor personnel, utility companies and officials as needed.
• Trains subordinates and assists in project closeout duties.
• Assists project engineers on major projects with project management duties.
• Reviews and prepares daily diaries, monthly construction estimates, and final plans.
• Performs project inspection and survey duties as needed.
• Takes samples and supervises others in sampling materials for specs.
• Conducts EPMS reviews.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
