Job summary

HDR is seeking a Highway Bridge Group Intern to gain practical experience on diverse bridge projects, applying standard engineering techniques under supervision. You will assist in drawings, calculations, material lists, and quantities, while inspecting structures and using design software.

The role includes mentoring opportunities and possible field visits. Open to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program, with a preference for local Nebraska candidates

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Familiar with MicroStation or AutoCAD is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Gain real-world experience on bridge projects by applying standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Assist in checking drawings and calculations, developing material lists and quantities.
  • Review construction submittals, inspect and assess structures and use structural design software.
  • Participate in mentoring programs and young professionals’ initiatives.
  • May include field services for site visits and NBIS inspection activities.

In the role of a Highway Bridge Group Intern, we'll count on you to:
  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and procedures on a variety of bridge types which may include steel girder, prestressed concrete beam, cable supported and buried structures for highway and railway projects.
  • Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a Professional Engineer to assist in checking drawings and calculations, developing material lists and calculating quantities, reviewing construction submittals, inspecting and assessing structures and using structural design software
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals’ programs
  • May also include field services for site visits and NBIS inspection activities
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 3+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Interest in Transportation and Structural Engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry, such as MicroStation or AutoCAD
  • Preference given to local candidates
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem‑solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
