Job summary

HDR, Inc. invites student engineers to join the Highway Bridge Group as Interns. You will work under a Professional Engineer, applying standard techniques to diverse bridge projects, from steel girder to cable-supported structures, while developing material lists and quantities. You’ll gain field exposure and participate in mentoring programs with leaders in HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  • 3+ years toward degree with 3.0+ GPA preferred.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills and attention to detail required.
  • Active participation in employee-owned culture is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Apply standard engineering techniques to bridge-type projects (steel girder, prestressed concrete, cable supported).
  • Assist in checking drawings and calculations, develop material lists, and calculate quantities.
  • Review construction submittals and inspect structures; use structural design software under supervision.
  • Participate in mentoring programs with recent graduates and company leaders.
  • Possibly assist with field services for site visits and NBIS inspection activities.

In the role of a Highway Bridge Group Intern, we'll count on you to:
  • Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and procedures on a variety of bridge types which may include steel girder, prestressed concrete beam, cable supported and buried structures for highway and railway projects.
  • Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a Professional Engineer to assist in checking drawings and calculations, developing material lists and calculating quantities, reviewing construction submittals, inspecting and assessing structures and using structural design software
  • Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals' programs
  • May also include field services for site visits and NBIS inspection activities
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer 3+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Interest in Transportation and Structural Engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry, such as MicroStation or AutoCAD
  • Preference given to local candidates
