Job summary

HDR is seeking a Freight Railroad Bridge Intern in Omaha, NE. You will gain real-world experience applying standard engineering techniques for the design of bridges and supporting facilities for freight railroad clients.

You will work under supervision to check drawings, develop material lists, review submittals, and use specialized software. Travel within the U.S. and field work may be required, with an emphasis on collaboration and safety within HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program.
• Attention to detail.
• Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Basic Microsoft Office skills.

In the role of a Freight Railroad Bridge Intern, we'll count on you to:

• Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and procedures related to the design of bridge, and supporting facilities for our various freight railroad clients
• Work under the guidance and direct supervision of a senior-level Engineer to assist in checking drawings and calculations, developing material lists and calculating quantities, reviewing construction submittals, and use of specialized software
• Connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals’ programs
• Position may require travel and/or field work within the U.S.
• Perform other duties as needed
• This position is contingent upon the successful completion of background check and drug screening. Following hire, the role is subject to random and reasonable-cause drug and alcohol testing
• Have a valid license to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prefer 2+ years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
• Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of study/industry, such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
• Preference given to local candidates
