Job summary

You will monitor environmental and safety compliance, maintain detailed records, and support project documentation and testing.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively with VDOT staff, contractors and the public.
• Ability to maintain detailed project records and prepare reports.
• Ability to read, interpret, and analyze roadway, structure and bridge plans and specifications.
• Knowledge of construction, civil engineering, project management or materials inspection.
• Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
• Familiarity with safety regulations (OSHA, VOSH) and environmental guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Inspect highway construction and maintenance work to ensure it meets plans and specifications.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to notify the public of traffic changes and project phases.
• Monitor compliance with CDs, environmental and safety regulations.
• Oversee materials testing and documentation for payment and acceptance.
• Provide technical guidance and support to inspectors and contractors.
• Maintain project records, daily diaries, and as-built drawings.
• Assist with project closeout, reporting, and safety practices.
