Job summary

The University of Washington Housing & Food Services is seeking a Cook to join its team in a high-volume, multi-venue dining operation. The Cook will prepare proteins, vegetables, fruits, starches and sauces to support international cuisines.

Positions include 9-month or 11.5-month cycles and are 100% onsite at UW Dining venues. Schedules are discussed during interviews, with possible shifts and two-week notice for changes.

Qualifications

• Washington State Food Worker Card within two weeks of employment and one year of experience preparing and serving food.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute for minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Using CBORD recipes and specifications, prepare menu items including proteins, vegetables, fruits, starches, and sauces.
• Marinate, grill, roast, griddle and carve proteins; steam vegetables and starches.
• Review recipes with the unit's culinarian to confirm production goals and service needs; seek prior approval before deviation from recipes.
• Display cooking to customer order, plating per standards and answering questions about ingredients, recipes and pricing.
• Guide the work of classified and student food service staff.
• Maintain records of foods produced, foods wasted, and recipe adjustments for culinary leadership.
• Consult with culinary leadership to address dietary restrictions.
• Monitor prepared foods for compliance with Washington State health code regulations, including temperatures.
• Clean and maintain order of workstation and prep areas; sanitize equipment.
• May be required to work during declared suspended operation.
