Job summary

Energy Jobline ZR is seeking a Senior Substation Estimator for a fully remote role serving utility-scale substation projects across the United States. You will develop detailed estimates for high-voltage substation construction, coordinate with operations, engineering and procurement teams, and lead bidding activities.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of estimating in electrical construction or power infrastructure, with deep knowledge of substations, scopes, and pricing strategy.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of estimating experience in electrical construction or power infrastructure.
• Strong experience with high-voltage substations is preferred.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings and specifications.
• Experience bidding on projects from small to large-scale.
• Knowledge of costs, margins and risk in estimating.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with estimating software and CM platforms.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for substation construction projects from opportunity through final bid submission.
• Review plans, specs, drawings and scope to develop accurate takeoffs and pricing.
• Develop material, equipment, labour and subcontractor pricing for complex projects.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, operations and project management teams.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations.
• Identify risks, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities during estimating.
• Participate in bid reviews and presentations with senior leadership and operations teams.
• Support competitive strategies and value engineering opportunities.
• Maintain estimating documentation and ensure bids meet deadlines.

Senior Substation Estimator

Transmission & Distribution | Remote | $130,000–$210,000

We are proud to be supporting a nationally recognised power infrastructure contractor with an exciting opportunity for a Senior Substation Estimator to join a growing and successful team.

The company is a leading contractor within the Transmission & Distribution sector, delivering complex electrical infrastructure projects across the United States. With a strong reputation for safety, quality and technical expertise, they have continued to grow their substation capabilities and are looking to add an experienced estimator to their team.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Substation Estimator, you will play a key role in developing competitive and accurate estimates for high-voltage substation projects, working closely with operations, engineering, procurement and project management teams throughout the bidding process.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator who wants to take ownership of larger, more complex bids and work on major utility and electrical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates for substation construction projects, from initial opportunity through final bid submission.
• Review project plans, specifications, drawings and scope documents to develop accurate takeoffs and pricing.
• Develop material, equipment, labour and subcontractor pricing for complex electrical construction projects.
• Coordinate with engineering, procurement, operations and project management teams to ensure estimates accurately reflect project requirements.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations.
• Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions and opportunities throughout the estimating process.
• Participate in bid reviews and presentations with senior leadership and operational teams.
• Support the development of competitive strategies and value-engineering opportunities.
• Maintain accurate estimating documentation and ensure bids are submitted within required deadlines.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of estimating experience within electrical construction, power infrastructure or a related environment.
• Strong experience estimating substation projects, ideally within the utility-scale T&D market.
• Understanding of high-voltage substation construction, including electrical equipment, civil scope, foundations, steel, bus work, grounding and associated infrastructure.
• Ability to interpret electrical drawings, specifications and construction documents.
• Experience working on projects ranging from smaller substation upgrades through to large-scale greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Strong commercial awareness and the ability to understand project costs, margins and risk.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to work across multiple bids simultaneously.
• Experience with estimating software and/or construction management platforms is .
