Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Cambridge, MA is seeking an R&D Engineer to design, build, and test high voltage systems for superconducting magnets used in SPARC/ARC projects. You will perform structural, electrical, and thermal analyses, develop test campaigns, and collaborate across manufacturing, R&D, and procurement to advance fusion technology.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science and 2+ years of relevant experience required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or science is required or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience as an R&D engineer or test engineer designing, building, commissioning complex electromechanical systems.
  • Experience with instrumentation and control components (thermocouples, sensors, oscillosopes, transducers, strain gauges, heaters).
  • Proficiency with CAD design in Siemens NX or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high voltage system designs and their subsystems, including test samples and manufacturing processes.
  • Design, build, and commission high voltage test equipment for R&D campaigns.
  • Perform structural, electrical, and thermal analyses to support sample design and test predictions.
  • Build expertise in testing superconducting magnets under high voltage.
  • Collaborate across manufacturing, R&D, procurement, and SPARC teams.
  • Maintain documentation and data acquisition systems; develop tools to analyze data and present results.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations including trade studies and test data reviews.
