Job summary

Shermco Industries, Inc. is seeking a Field Service Technician specialized in electrical testing for Charlotte, NC. The role involves testing, maintaining, and repairing electrical distribution systems at client sites, with a focus on safety and high-quality work.

You will travel locally and regionally to inspect and test LV through HV systems, perform transformer and relay tests, and troubleshoot switchgear. A background in EPC or EE, NETA certification, and strong PC skills are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be able to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
• Prefer an Associate’s degree from a 2-year technical college in EPC or an EE degree from ABET accredited college; similar training acceptable.
• NETA Certification (I, II, III or IV) or similar desired.
• 2+ years of experience in switchgear testing & troubleshooting.
• Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Excel; PowerDB experience a plus.
• Must adhere to electrical safety procedures and pass pre-employment checks.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and data collection on LV, MV, and HV systems.
• Perform instrument transformer tests and power transformer testing (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance).
• Test electro-mechanical and solid-state relays; perform cable testing (Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot).
• Troubleshoot ATS, test switchgear and breakers, and calibrate relays; monitor power metering.
• Rotate on-call duty and respond to emergencies as needed.
