Job summary

Amphenol Communications Solutions, a division of Amphenol Corporation, seeks a Product Development Engineer to be a mechanical designer for next‑gen high-speed connector products. You will collaborate across teams to align roadmaps with industry needs and enable high-volume manufacturing, driving profitability and innovation.

The role emphasizes interaction with manufacturing sites, vendors, and other engineering disciplines to deliver robust, manufacturable products and potential leadership

Qualifications

• BS/MS Mechanical Engineering (or similar).
• Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
• Experience with solid modeling/CAE/CAD tools (Pro/E, SolidWorks).
• Proficiency with MS Office.
• Understanding of GD&T and FEA tools.
• Knowledge of copper alloys & high-performance plastics; networking/datacenter/server architectures.
• Manufacturing knowledge (stamping, molding, plating) is a plus.
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering.
• Ability to travel ~10% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Understand evolving industry needs and product requirements.
• Collaborate with Signal Integrity (EE) team to ensure mechanical design supports electrical performance.
• Collaborate with Mechanical Integrity to ensure reliability over product life.
• Work with NPI and Machine Design teams for high-volume, efficient production.
• Conduct tolerance loop analyses.
• Aid in material selection (metal, plastic, coatings).
• Help develop initial product specifications and technical documentation.
• Interface with customers during multiple phases and assist sales.
• Coordinate with internal/external suppliers for DFM, prototyping, and tooling; travel as needed.
• Provide technical assistance to product marketing and sales.
• Participate in quality investigations and improvement initiatives.
• Participate in fixture/tooling design and test plans (mechanical and electrical).
• Participate in cost-reduction projects.
