Job summary

Illinois School District U-46 is seeking a Theatre Production/Technical Manager to support a high-quality theatre program, focusing on visual and functional aesthetics to provide meaningful student opportunities.

The role involves coordinating with the Auditorium Manager and Director to build/set pieces, lighting, and sound designs, while training student crews and ensuring safety. Expected commitment includes building hours and attending performances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in theatre education is preferred.
• PEL preferred.
• High School Diploma required.
• OSHA Tool Safety certifications required (Power Tools and Ladder Safety).
• Related coursework or prior related experience required.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with parents, students, administrators, teacher colleagues, and community leaders.
• Maintain high expectations for student achievement and behavior and motivate students to work to their highest potential.
• Maintain equipment associated with the activity.
• Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
• Create a learning environment conducive to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Cultivate a positive, harassment-free culture using constructive feedback.
• Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Apply and enforce student discipline per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
• Create/build/procure/finish set pieces as requested by the Director.
• Schedule building time with the Auditorium Manager and Director.
• Create/procure a lighting scheme with the Auditorium Manager and Director.
• Create/procure a sound design with the Auditorium Manager and Director.
• Manage/train student set crew in safe use of tools and movement of set pieces with the Auditorium Manager.
• Create/procure/organize/maintain props as requested by the Director.
• 80 hours of building and rehearsal.
• Attend all show performances.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Education

Appropriate Professional Educator's License (PEL) preferred

High School Diploma required

OSHA Power Tool Safety Certification

OSHA Ladder Safety Certification

Related coursework and/or previous related experience required
