Job summary

Reeths-Puffer Schools in Michigan seeks an Attendance and Student Support Specialist to partner with students, families and staff to improve attendance, engagement and academic outcomes. You will conduct regular check-ins and monitor progress.

Collaborating with teachers, counselors and administrators, you will implement MTSS-based interventions, connect families with resources, and help students stay on track toward graduation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, psychology, human services, or related field preferred.
• Experience working with high school students, particularly students experiencing attendance, academic, or engagement challenges.
• Demonstrated ability to establish positive, trusting relationships with students and families.
• Knowledge of MTSS and student support systems preferred.
• Ability to use attendance, academic, and engagement data to identify student needs and monitor progress.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to facilitate individual student check-ins and small-group support.
• Knowledge of school and community resources to connect students and families with supports.
• Commitment to removing barriers to student success.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong, supportive relationships with students, serving as a consistent adult in the school community.
• Conduct regular individual student check-ins to assess attendance, academic progress, engagement, and student needs.
• Monitor student attendance and identify patterns of absenteeism or disengagement.
• Connect with students and families to identify root causes and develop strategies to remove barriers.
• Implement individualized attendance and student success interventions with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families.
• Monitor and document progress toward attendance, academic, and engagement goals; adjust interventions based on data.
• Facilitate small-group support focused on organization, goal setting, academic habits, self-advocacy, and school connection.
• Advocate for students and connect them with school-based and community resources.
• Provide re-entry and recovery support after absences or disruptions to learning.
• Collaborate with school support teams through MTSS and other processes.
• Maintain timely records of check-ins, interventions, and family contacts while protecting confidentiality.
• Communicate with students, families, and staff to promote accountability and celebrate progress.
• Help students belong, engage, and stay on track toward graduation.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education
