Job summary

Muskegon Area Intermediate School District is seeking an Attendance Support Specialist to strengthen connections with students and families. You will conduct regular check-ins, monitor attendance and engagement, and design practical interventions in collaboration with teachers and counselors.

You will work to identify root causes of disengagement, connect students with services, and help them stay on track toward graduation through MTSS-based strategies and data-driven planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, counseling, psychology, human services, or related field preferred.
• Experience working with high school students, particularly those facing attendance, academic, or engagement challenges.
• Ability to establish positive, trusting relationships with students and families.
• Knowledge of MTSS and targeted interventions preferred.
• Ability to use attendance, academic, and engagement data to identify student needs and monitor progress.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to conduct individual check-ins and small-group support.
• Knowledge of school and community resources to connect students with supports.
• Commitment to removing barriers to student success.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain strong, supportive relationships with students, as a consistent, trusted adult in the school community.
• Conduct regular individual student check-ins to assess attendance, academics, engagement, and needs.
• Monitor attendance and proactively identify patterns of absenteeism or disengagement.
• Connect with students and families to identify root causes and develop strategies to remove barriers.
• Implement individualized attendance and student success interventions with teachers, counselors, administrators, and families.
• Monitor and document progress toward attendance, academic, and engagement goals; adjust interventions based on data.
• Facilitate small-group support on organization, goal setting, academic habits, self-advocacy, and school connection.
• Advocate for students and connect them with school and community resources.
• Provide re-entry and recovery support after absences, setbacks, or interruptions to learning.
• Collaborate with school support teams through MTSS and other student intervention processes.
• Maintain confidential records of check-ins, interventions, and progress; communicate with families and staff.
