Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of successful K-12 teaching or educational support experience.

MTSS Coordinator

Position Summary

The MTSS Coordinator provides leadership, coaching, and strategic oversight in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) aligned with the Graduate Profile. This role ensures that all students - academically, behaviorally, and socially-emotionally, receive high-quality, research-based instruction and intervention matched to their specific needs. The Coordinator collaborates with district leadership, building administrators, instructional coaches, interventionists, and classroom teachers to establish data-driven systems across Tier 1 (Universal), Tier 2 (Targeted), and Tier 3 (Intensive) frameworks.

Qualifications

• - Bachelor's Degree in Education; Master's Degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, School Psychology, Special Education, or related field preferred.
• - Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate, Administrator Certificate, or School Service Professional License required.
• - Minimum of 5 years of successful K-12 teaching or educational support experience.
• - Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience in MTSS, PBIS, data-driven decision-making, and instructional coaching.
• - Knowledge and experience with Graduate Profile Competencies preferred.
• - Deep knowledge of research-based academic interventions (Reading/Math) and behavioral frameworks (PBIS, Restorative Practices, SEL).

• - Strong facilitation, coaching, conflict resolution, and adult learning strategy skills.
• - Proficient in district data integration platforms and educational technology toolsets.
• - Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills across diverse audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• - Establish and refine district-wide MTSS frameworks, guidelines, decision-making trees, and standard operating procedures that align with the Graduate Profile.
• - Facilitate district-level MTSS leadership team meetings to review systemic data, track district goals, and align resources.
• - Partner with building administrators to ensure fidelity of MTSS implementation across elementary, intermediate, middle, and high school buildings.
• - Organize and lead ongoing professional development for staff on universal screening, progress monitoring, evidence-based instructional strategies, and data literacy.
• - Manage district assessment schedules related to universal screenings (e.g., NWEA MAP, FastBridge, or district-adopted screeners) and diagnostic assessments.
• - Collaborate with curriculum leaders and instructional coaches to ensure high-quality, culturally responsive core instruction (academic and PBIS/SEL) is accessible to 100% of students.
• - Assist teaching staff in embedding Graduate Profile skills, universal design for learning (UDL) principles, and proactive classroom management into Tier 1 practice.
• - Lead data protocols during professional learning community (PLC) meetings to analyze grade-level and building-wide benchmark data, ensuring Tier 1 instruction meets the needs of at least 80% of the student population.
• - Define standard protocols, entry/exit criteria, and evidence-based intervention menus for Tier 2 academic and behavioral supports.
• - Coordinate building-level problem-solving teams (Data Teams / Student Support Teams) to evaluate screeners, identify students needing supplemental support, and match them with targeted interventions.
• - Train and support staff on implementation fidelity and progress-monitoring schedules for Tier 2 interventions.
• - Monitor resource allocation (personnel, time, materials) to ensure Tier 2 groups are run efficiently and flexibly.
• - Establish guidelines for intensive, individualized academic and behavioral problem-solving processes for students who do not respond adequately to Tier 2 supports.
• - Collaborate with special education personnel, school psychologists, social workers, and counselors to ensure smooth integration between intensive MTSS interventions and special education evaluations/Child Find procedures.
• - Ensure fidelity of high-intensity interventions, complex Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs), and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
• - Guide teams in conducting thorough root-cause analyses and using diagnostic data to craft highly specific, individual intervention plans.
• - Use the district's data management platforms (e.g., FastBridge, Abre, PowerSchool) to track intervention plans, attendance, behavior, and academic progress across all tiers.
• - Evaluate the overall efficacy of district interventions by tracking student growth metrics and exit rates.
• - Ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines related to MTSS, Section 504, and Special Education eligibility processes (e.g., Michigan Department of Education MTSS framework).
• - Develop communication structures and materials that keep families informed about the Graduate Profile, MTSS process, tier placement, and student progress.
• - Facilitate a welcoming environment where families are active partners in problem-solving meetings and intervention planning.
• - Work in office and classroom environments across multiple district buildings, with regular travel between Reeths-Puffer Schools facilities.
• - Perform light physical effort, including standing, walking, carrying instructional materials, and sitting for extended periods during meetings.

Compensation

The salary of this grant-funded position will be commensurate with level of education and experience.
