Job summary

LABBB Educational Collaborative is seeking a High School Special Education Teacher Assistant for Arlington High School in Arlington, Massachusetts. The role supports students with significant disabilities, implements lessons, and assists in data collection and progress tracking.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, driving ability, and full-time availability (35 hours/week, 11 months, plus 4 weeks in summer). Salary ranges from $43,475 to $59,892 per year with benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
  • Experience working with children, young adults, or in human services related field, special education experience highly desirable.
  • Ability to work with students with a variety of disabilities including, but not limited to social emotional, behavioral, non-verbal, non-ambulatory, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to commute between buildings/programs during the day.
  • Ability and willingness to drive LABBB van (as required by program)
  • Working full time (35 hours per week), 11 months (school calendar) plus required 4 weeks in summer.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with arrival and departure of students.
  • Under the supervision of licensed staff, assist in the implementation of data driven, culturally responsive instruction, and implementation of individual education plans and behavior intervention plans.
  • Follow schedule as assigned, including reassignments to different program locations as needed.
  • Prepare instructional materials as requested/directed by the teacher.
  • Support students' development of independence, social awareness, language, academic skills and appropriate behavior.
  • Collect student data and provides it to members of the student’s team (teacher, transition counselor, related service provider)
  • Effectively utilize any recommended adaptive equipment for individual students.
  • Communicate all significant occurrences to the appropriate supervisor in a respectful and timely manner.
  • Uphold LABBB’s mission and core values as well as adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the field and contribute to a positive and safe school culture.
  • Support students’ personal care needs which may include activities of daily living (ADL’s) such as communication, toileting, feeding, transferring, self-care, and assistance with mobility including lifting,
  • Supervise students across educational settings including at lunch and in the community.
  • Staff members may be asked to work closely with the Health Office and undergo additional training to facilitate delegation of medication in the community setting.
