Job summary

Woonsocket Education Department at Woonsocket High School seeks a paraprofessional to support students with IEPs in a high school setting. Under supervision of the Teacher and Special Education Director, you will implement IEP objectives, assist with lesson tasks, and help manage behavior while ensuring student safety.

This role requires willingness to pursue required TA training, reliable attendance, and the ability to communicate with parents.

Qualifications

• RI Department of Education approved Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program.
• Exception options: those hired before 1999; those with out-of-state TA certification; or those with an associate or bachelor’s degree plus relevant TA training.
• Must pass ParaPro Assessment or have 2 years of higher education or an associate degree or higher.

Responsibilities

• Follows IEPs to improve student behavior under supervision.
• Incorporates educational objectives into daily activities.
• Communicates with parents via logs and updates progress.
• Maintains student notebooks and materials.
• Plans and develops teaching aids (bibliographies, charts, graphs).
• Presents subject matter using varied methods (lecture, discussion, role play).
• Assists students individually or in groups with assignments.
