Farmington Public Schools is seeking a Language Arts Tutor at Farmington High School. Position is 6.5 hours per day, school year and includes health insurance, $30,000 life insurance & LTD, 12 sick days, 3 personal days and 8 paid holidays.

General Description and Duties: Tutors provide instructional support and/or reinforcement of the instructional program for selected students under the supervision of a teacher. This includes carrying out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities, assisting in the preparation of materials for instruction, and recording individual progress of students. This position exhibits a cooperative working relationship with teachers.

Qualifications:

• Candidate should hold a Bachelor's Degree (degree in English preferred)
• Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.
• Consideration will be given to the following:
  • references that indicate the candidate possesses the skills required for this position
  • ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form
  • Various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate's overall preparedness. Prior experience working with school age children is a plus.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works with teams of teachers to monitor student progress in heterogeneously grouped English classes and designs interventions for those in need.
• Joins teachers' team meetings, as needed, to support curriculum development and identify opportunities for instructional support.
• Assists Social Studies teachers with differentiated activities in their classrooms.
• Provides individual or small group tutorials for students assignedby classroom teachers as well as to students who drop in to the Tutorial as needed.
• Works with the Social Studies department leader to develop practices to promote self-direction, reflection, and student ownership over the writing process.
• Participates in relevant professional development.

Salary: $28.18 - $$31.48per hour based on experience (per FPSEU contract)

WORK SCHEDULE:180 days (School Year Calendar)
