Job summary

Sylvania is seeking an athletic coach to perform on and off-season duties for the high school program. The role includes planning summer practices, managing uniforms and schedules, and supporting student-athletes through tryouts and seasonal activities.

The position requires teaching or ASEP certification, background check clearance, and the ability to manage multiple tasks, recruit students, and ensure IHSA eligibility and safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• Must possess a teaching certificate or ASEP certification.
• Must pass ACUSD #11 background check and drug test and complete all necessary forms for employment.
• Be competent and understand the basic skills of the individual sport.

Responsibilities

• Preseason: size and order uniforms and equipment; distribute uniforms and orders; plan, organize and coach summer practices; manage fundraisers to defray costs; maintain schedules; complete IHSA rules review and NFHS concussion training; provide first aid; recruit.
• Tryouts: post information; hold informational meetings; track applications and forms; set up and manage tryouts.
• Season: follow all guidelines; hold parent meetings; arrange travel; manage uniforms and documentation; supervise practices; ensure IHSA eligibility rosters starting 5 days before first contest; manage transfer eligibility; attend games home/away; organize additional fundraisers; develop routines for assemblies and pep rallies; participate in Homecoming and promote school spirit.
• Post-Season: collect, wash, repair and store uniforms; submit inventory; issue fine cards; assist hosting events for letters/awards; assess year and plan improvements; attend evaluation meeting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Preseason

  • Plan and receive administrative approval for several fundraisers to defray the athlete's costs
  • Manage and distribute sports schedules
  • Complete IHSA on line rules review and NFHS concussion training
  • Provide first aid for students; maintain emergency procedures

  • Keep track of applications, teacher recommendations, physical forms, proof of insurance and attendance for all applicants

  • Follows all state, league, federation, building and District guidelines, procedures, and policies.

  • Order buses for the different activities.
  • Insure all in and out of district travel forms are complete.
  • Distribute uniforms and keep documentation by inventory or fine cards.
  • Manage, supervise and attend all practices.
  • Complete, maintain and insure compliance with IHSA eligibility rosters starting 5 days prior to the first eligible contest.
  • Submit a list of all transfer students participating to the Athletic Director to insure a transfer of eligibility is submitted to IHSA. This should be done within the first two days of practice.
  • Attend all assigned games home and away including post season.
  • Organize additional fundraisers throughout the year.
  • Develop routines for assigned sports assemblies.
  • Develop materials and attend pep rally.
  • Organize and participate in all Homecoming activities. (Fall Sports)
  • Maintain activities that promote school spirit.
  • Keep accurate records throughout the season including attendance and athlete’s grades.
  • Stats must be current, up to date and reported within two days after contest to STL Prep Sports.
  • Attend to IHSA post season online forms.
  • Manage and discipline all athletes throughout the year. (with respect to their current sport)
  • Maintain parental contact.
  • Assist athlete with college recruitment process
• Post-Season
  • Collect, wash, repair and store uniforms.
  • Complete inventory report and submit it within two weeks of the end of the season.
  • Submit fine cards to the Athletic Director’s Office Professional.
  • Assist with hosting an event to distribute letters and awards.
  • Assess and evaluate the year and plan improvements for the next year.
  • Attend Post Athletic Evaluation meeting with the Athletic Director.
