Job summary

Sylvania in Alton, IL is seeking an Assistant Wrestling Coach for an extra duty position. The role supports the athletic program during the season and off-season, including planning practices, coordinating equipment, and assisting with recruitment and compliance.

The coach will work under the Director of Athletics, ensure safety and student welfare, and help manage schedules, travel, and fundraising activities across seasons. Certification and background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Must hold a teaching certificate or ASEP certification.
• Must pass ACUSD #11 background check and drug test.
• Must complete all necessary employment forms.
• Understand basic skills of the wrestling program.

Responsibilities

• Preseason: size and order uniforms and equipment.
• Preseason: distribute uniforms and manage orders.
• Plan, organize and coach summer practices.
• Plan and receive administrator approval for fundraisers to defray athlete costs.
• Manage and distribute sports schedules.
• Complete IHSA online rules review and NFHS concussion training.
• Provide first aid and maintain emergency procedures.
• Recruit athletes for the program.
• Tryouts: post information and hold informational meetings for stakeholders.
• Keep track of applications, recommendations and forms for all applicants.
• Set up and manage tryouts.
• Season: follow all guidelines and hold parent meetings.
• Order buses and ensure travel forms are complete.
• Distribute uniforms and maintain inventory records.
• Supervise practices and ensure eligibility rosters.
• Submit transfer eligibility information to IHSA.
• Attend all home and away games and post season.
• Organize and participate in Homecoming activities.
• Maintain records of attendance and grades.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete, maintain and ensure compliance with IHSA eligibility rosters starting 5 days prior to the first eligible contest.
  • Submit a list of all transfer students participating to the Athletic Director to ensure a transfer of eligibility is submitted to IHSA. This should be done within the first two days of practice.
  • Attend all assigned games home and away including post season.
  • Organize additional fundraisers throughout the year.
  • Develop routines for assigned sports assemblies.
  • Develop materials and attend pep rally.
  • Organize and participate in all Homecoming activities. (Fall Sports)
  • Maintain activities that promote school spirit.
  • Keep accurate records throughout the season including attendance and student grades.
  • Stats must be current, up to date and reported within two days after contest to STL Prep Sports.
  • Attend to IHSA post season online forms.
  • Manage and discipline all athletes throughout the year. (with respect to their current sport)
  • Maintain parental contact.
  • Assist athlete with college recruitment process
• Post-Season
• • Collect, wash, repair and store uniforms.
  • Complete inventory report and submit it within two weeks of the end of the season.
  • Submit fine cards to the Athletic Director’s Office Professional.
  • Assist with hosting an event to distribute letters and awards.
  • Assess and evaluate the year and plan improvements for the next year.
  • Attend Post Athletic Evaluation meeting with the Athletic Director.
