Job summary

Brewer School Department is accepting applications for a Food Service Assistant (3-hr per day) position. The ideal candidate will have:

High School Diploma or equivalency certificate required. Prior food service experience is preferred, but not required. Must have a current CHRC (fingerprinting) on file with the Maine Department of Education.

• Keep accurate records of food amounts prepared, served and left.
• Operate a cash register/point-of-sale system with accurate daily cash up.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs independently.

2026-2027 rate of pay ranges from $17.48 to 21.76 per hour and includes paid time off.

Duties

A food service assistant will participate in the daily preparation and serving of attractive and nutritious meals following USDA Guidelines. Duties are widely varied and can include any or all of the following:

• Preparation, serving, and storage of food.
• Daily cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen, service and storage areas and other related areas to include equipment in these areas.
• Maintains and observes the highest standards of safety and sanitation in the kitchen and personally.
• Assists in the weekly ordering of foods and supplies and monthly inventories.
• Must be able to keep accurate records of food amounts prepared, served and left.
• Operate a cash register/point-of-sale system and perform daily cash up with accuracy.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs independently.
