Job Summary

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within Oxford Hills School District facilities. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with the ability to perform a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks, operate cleaning equipment, and handle cleaning chemicals safely. The Head Custodian supports the District's mission by ensuring that all facilities are conducive to a positive learning and working environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Cleaning and Maintenance:
  • Performs routine and heavy cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors.
  • Gathers and empties trash and recycling.
  • Scrubs, sanitizes, and supplies restroom facilities.
  • Dusts furniture, walls, and equipment.
  • Cleans windows, mirrors, and partitions.
  • Cleans fixtures and furniture.
  • Shampoos or steam-cleans carpets and rugs.
  • Performs routine maintenance activities.
• Equipment and Supplies:
  • Operates cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners and floor buffers, safely and effectively.
  • Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals according to instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage.
  • Manages inventory of cleaning supplies and does ordering of needed supplies.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Checks for and reports unsafe conditions in assigned areas/buildings.
  • Follows District procedures and regulations for maintaining a safe and efficient school environment.
  • Adheres to occupational hazards and safety rules.
• Support and Assistance:
  • Supports the District's mission and goals.
  • Assists in requisitioning cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in requesting repairs.
  • Removes snow and ice from walkways around the building and anywhere else as assigned by Assistant Facilities Director, or Facilities Director.

• Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and twist for extended periods.
