Job summary

Southwest Independent School District is seeking an exceptional, energetic CTE Construction Teacher at Southwest High School to lead a hands-on program that prepares students for careers in construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and project management.

The role emphasizes TEKS-aligned coursework, robust safety practices, industry partnerships, and certifications, with a focus on hands-on learning, student success, and college and career readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or approved alternative certification pathway.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate and ability to manage classroom/shop environments.
• Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
• Commitment to student success and high expectations.
• Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check.
• Ability to teach and manage a classroom/lab environment effectively.
• Knowledge of student engagement strategies and project-based instruction.
• Ability to build an industry-relevant CTE classroom program.
• 5+ years of work experience; eligibility under District of Innovation certification.
• Preferred: 5+ years construction industry experience in residential/commercial/electrical/plumbing/HVAC/welding.

Responsibilities

• Teach Construction Technology courses aligned to TEKS and workforce standards.
• Develop and deliver engaging, project-based instruction in Core Construction Skills.
• Framing, Measuring/layout, Tool safety and operation, Electrical fundamentals.
• Concrete/materials knowledge, Construction math, and safety practices.
• Deliver Career Readiness Skills: Leadership, Communication, Teamwork, Jobsite professionalism.
• Prepare students for employment, apprenticeships, and postsecondary pathways.
• Support industry certifications such as OSHA and NCCER.
• Maintain a safe, organized shop/lab environment and build industry partnerships.
• Recruit students and grow enrollment in the program; track progress and certifications.
• Collaborate with staff and partners to expand opportunities for students.
