Job summary

Steilacoom High School in Steilacoom, WA, seeks a High School Athletic Trainer to support 9th–12th grade athletes. You will work with the Athletic Director and coaches to keep students safe during practices and competitions, while fostering confidence, teamwork and healthy student development.

The role is approximately 20 hours weekly at $85 per hour, starting August 2026. Responsibilities include record-keeping, adherence to WIAA rules, and first aid/emergency response as needed.

Qualifications

  • Hold a current Washington State Athletic Trainer License.
  • Graduate from a bachelor's or master's degree program approved by Washington's Secretary of Health.

  • Abide by district, building, and WIAA policies and guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate records and data; follow safety procedures in athletic performance.

Competitive sport provide an opportunity for students to develop confidence, leadership skills, goal setting and time management which support students' engagement and academic achievement in school. Athletic trainers play a critical role in supporting the district's athletic programs that ensures students have a safe, enriching experience.

Athletic trainers coordinate with the Athletic Director and coaches to ensure the safety of student athletes by establishing an effective athletic training program. The employee must understand and abide by all building, district and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) policies, regulations, procedures and guidelines. Minimum Qualifications And Skills
  • Successful experience or demonstrated commitment toward working with culturally and racially diverse students, families and communities.
  • Hold a current Washington State Athletic Trainer License.
  • Graduate from a bachelor's or master's degree program approved by Washington's Secretary of Health.
  • Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of the particular sport and the requirements, rules, required clinics, training and expectations of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA).
  • Possess or ability to obtain first aid certificate, CPR card and AED training as required.
  • Knowledgeable in application of safety procedures related to athletic performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and reliable records and data.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others, personally or through other means of communication (phone, email).
  • Ability to use sound judgement and decision making.
  • Ability and desire to relate to students of differing athletic abilities.
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
