Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist – Hemostasis in Chicago for a full-time day/evening split shift. You will perform pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic steps, ensure QC/QA, and report results to physicians promptly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take the ASCP or equivalent certification examination.
• License/Certification and Regulatory Agency requirements must be met.
• General MLS or MT (ASCP) Certification or eligible; Categorical certifications may apply.
• If hired after 1/19/2025 must be ASCP certified (or equivalent) within one year.

Responsibilities

• Perform test procedures in a clinical laboratory and report results to the physician or designee accurately and promptly.
• Handle pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic workflow for the specified laboratory section.
• Verify orders and collect, label, and process specimens correctly and safely.
• Maintain instrument quality control, monitor reagents, and ensure adequate supplies.
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot equipment as needed.
• Review results, provide interpretations, and communicate critical values per protocol.
• Participate in QA/QC programs and contribute to new test development and validation as required.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Allied Health qualifying the applicant to take ASCP, or equivalent certification examination.
