Job summary

Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Physician Assistant to support Hematology/Oncology services at Elmhurst Hospital, providing comprehensive assessment, treatment planning, and follow-up for inpatients and clinic patients.

You will work with an attending to deliver coordinated care, perform procedures, and manage documentation in EPIC. New graduates are welcomed with training provided; strong communication and time-management skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree is required and open to new graduates with training provided.
• Excellent written and oral communication, commitment to medical education and willingness to learn in a fast-evolving field.
• Time management in a high-volume practice and consult-heavy service; ability to prioritize urgent issues.

Responsibilities

• Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations with documentation in EPIC for inpatient and outpatient consultations.
• Assist/perform bone marrow biopsies to improve procedural efficiency and reduce delays in diagnosis and treatment
• Initiates, documents and communicates the plan of care and follows up for complete screening and preparation of patients.
• Support care of patients admitted for inpatient chemotherapy or oncologic workups, coordinating care and monitoring treatment-related issues
• Inbox management, responding to patient messages, medication refills, symptom concerns for hematology/oncology patients
• Assistance with e-consults and coordination of referrals
• Writes orders for medications, lab work and diagnostic tests; obtains specialty medications; interprets lab results relevant to hematology/oncology/chemo suitability
• Communicates with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff and other care providers to ensure quality patient care
• Manage urgent infusion center issues including reactions, acute symptoms, same-day concerns
• Performs related duties as required; special projects at department director discretion
