Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an entry-level associate to assist machine operators in producing sheetmetal parts for air handling equipment. You will lift, load, unload, label and stack parts, and transport materials while following safety procedures.

The role requires basic math, reading comprehension, and the ability to follow simple instructions. Forklift license may be required in some departments; training is provided.

Qualifications

• Education/experience: Less than high school or up to one month related experience or training.
• Language ability: Read and comprehend simple instructions and safety rules.
• Math ability: Add, subtract, and multiply/divide using dollars, weights and measures.
• Reasoning: Follow simple one- or two-step instructions and handle routine situations.
• Certificates/Licenses: Forklift license required in some departments; obtain within 3 months.

• Assist machine operators in loading/unloading and positioning work-pieces.
• Label parts and stack correctly per job routers.
• Transport stock, tools, dies and work in process.
• Prepare components for coil building and deburring as needed.
• Maintain clean work areas and report safety concerns.

BASIC FUNCTION

Assists machine operators engaged in the manufacture of sheetmetal parts for commercial air handling equipment and coils.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Include the following. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED

• Lifts, positions, and removes work-pieces from machines.
• Assists machine operator in loading and unloading machine.
• Labels parts and stacks them in the appropriate location in the proper orientation and with appropriate job routers.
• Loads, stacks, and transports stock, tools, dies, and work in process by hand or truck.
• Collects tubes and parts required for building coils.
• Builds coil body (builds frame, inserts fines and tubes).
• Deburrs metal parts as necessary
• Pick up and trucks scrap from work areas.
• Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
• Wears all required PPE.
• Trains new or existing employees, if necessary.
• Performs other routine duties.
• Responsible for reporting work related injuries and near misses to supervision.
• Responsible for wearing all required PPE and following applicable safety/environmental rules.
• Responsible for correcting or reporting unsafe conditions observed within the plant.

QUALIFICATIONS

• EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos (i.e. safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, shop-floor paperwork, and procedure manuals). Ability to write information from layout drawing to parts.
• MATH ABILITY: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
• REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
• COMPUTER SKILLS: No computer skills required.
• CERTIFICATES & LICENSES: Forklift license required in some departments. Must be able to obtain within three (3) months.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE

22.61 - 24.62 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
