Job description

Starting at $29.30/ Hr and $1,000.00 SIGN ON BONUS!

This position is responsible for providing safe, prompt and efficient transportation for the company’s customers. Operates the bus or vehicle defensively in accordance with traffic regulations and observes traffic lights, other vehicles, and pedestrians to avoid accidents with the Spirit of Aloha.

Responsibilities

Incumbent may perform any or all of the following:

  • Obtains appropriate documents to meet DOT regulations and ensures documents remain current to maintain driver’s eligibility
  • Perform duties of a Driver with professionalism and a courteous manner; greeting customers with “Aloha” and providing exceptional customer service
  • Present a neat clean appearance
  • Deal with people in a non-discriminatory way, and maintain control of self and passengers in all emergency situations
  • Communicate to customer the guidelines for behavior during transport. Provide narrations and announcements in a clear and friendly manner as instructed
  • Provide / practice customer service per company training
  • Part time drivers call in daily for start time for work the day before
  • Perform a systematic and thorough pre-trip inspection of vehicle to be driven – Complete a Driver’s Inspection Report; inspect vehicle and complete checklist
  • Any problems are reported to maintenance
  • Drivers are responsible for fueling (and recording fuel usage)
  • Notify Dispatch Operations of any changes in trip route or schedule
  • Receive prior authorization from Dispatch Operations for planned deviations
  • Ensure that the Syncromatics system is working properly, any discrepancies with the system need to be reported to dispatch immediately
  • Prepare all Daily/Monthly passes
  • Clean and properly maintain uniform and required IDs are to be worn at all times during shift
  • Assist passengers needing special assistance and secure wheelchairs
  • Pick-up and Drop-off passengers in an orderly and efficient manner
  • Report counts, changes, and destination to Dispatcher
  • Provide transportation to and from destinations
  • Keep accurate passenger counts on the Syncromatics system and Driver’s count sheet
  • Conduct post-trip inspection
  • Refuel vehicle when needed
  • Complete required paperwork
  • Fill out a Vehicle Accident Report and follow company policies in the event of an accident
  • Completed trip sheets for each assigned movement and turn in paperwork

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

Working Conditions/Job Environment
  • Must be able to stand, walk and sit for sustained periods of time
  • Medium work - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects
  • Stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting for extended periods of time
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform activities such as operating and repairing machines/equipment
  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside
  • The worker is subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity of moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to heat
  • Subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mists and gases
  • Some remote work may be necessary

Essential Skills (Minimum qualifications)
  • Minimum age of 21 years’ old
  • Completed training to perform various routes
  • Attend all trainings and/or meetings as required
  • Able to read, speak and understand English
  • The State DOT’s Motor Vehicle Safety Office requires good command of English to communicate with examiners
  • Clearly announcing stops and points of interest
  • Ability to perform simple math functions – counting, adding, subtracting
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule as needed including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Position requires working under deadlines or pressure
  • Requires expertise in dealing with people and situations involving complex issues
  • Entails compliance with the company Substance Abuse Policy and Department of Transportation regulations
  • Ensure that all DOT documentation is current and valid
  • Driver’s License Class B with P Endorsement
  • Hawaii Driver History Record
  • PUC (Physical Examination, Medical Clearance Card)
