The Brookline DPW is seeking candidates for Heavy Motor Equipment Operator II to provide heavy equipment operation and manual labor related to the activities of the Water and Sewer Division.
The responsibilities include operating vehicles such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, crane trucks, catch basin cleaners, and sewer cleaners/vactors/jetting trucks. Operates plow trucks during snow removal emergencies, conducts safety inspections of vehicles, operates equipment at sewer and water construction sites, and transports materials. Installs new water services, repairs broken water lines and mains.
Assists pipe layers and craftspersons with water and sewer services tasks, installs new water services, repairs water lines and mains, assists contractors with copper water line installations, operates tapping machines, repairs catch basins and sewer covers, and clears sewer blockages.
Assists in excavations and backfills utility trenches; makes connections of water, sewer, and drainage pipes.
Performs snow plowing and removal tasks as assigned, and other related work as required.
Qualifications: High school diploma; 1-2 years of experience with heavy equipment and trucks; construction and utility project experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Commercial Driver's License, Class B; Valid MA Hoisting Engineer's License. Ability to operate potentially dangerous equipment, assist personnel, lift heavy objects, recognize maintenance needs, and read plans and diagrams.
Starting salary: $28.29 per hour plus benefits and good working conditions. Open until filled.
