Job summary

Ascendum Machinery in Richmond Hill, GA seeks a hands-on Shop Foreman to lead daily shop operations for heavy equipment repairs and maintenance. You will assign work, assist technicians, review progress, and ensure safety and quality from diagnostics to billing.

The role works with service leadership, parts, and customers to resolve equipment concerns, train staff, and maintain an organized, efficient shop while controlling costs and meeting scheduling targets.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade training preferred.
• Experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction equipment.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Leadership experience as lead technician or foreman preferred.
• Ability to read service manuals, schematics, diagnostic information, and repair instructions.
• Ability to prioritize competing repair needs and guide technicians through complex assignments.
• Proficiency with diagnostic software and standard computer applications.
• Knowledge of OSHA/MSHA safety requirements.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while coordinating with the service team.
• Availability to work scheduled branch hours and additional hours as needed.
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record when required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily shop workflow and assign jobs based on technician skills and priorities.
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
• Monitor repair progress and coordinate parts, tools, and resources needed.
• Inspect completed repairs and confirm readiness to return to service.
• Communicate job status and estimated completion times to service leadership.
• Review labor entries, service reports, and documentation for accuracy.
• Coordinate with service administration to ensure work orders are opened and billed promptly.
• Monitor WIP and LDL to meet targets without sacrificing quality.
• Coach technicians on procedures, safety, productivity, and documentation.
• Support onboarding and skill development for staff.
• Maintain a clean, organized shop and yard; proper care of tools and equipment.
• Reinforce safety requirements and contamination control procedures.
• Help control repair costs and minimize rework.
• Build relationships with customers, technicians, parts, sales, and branches.
• Communicate performance concerns and equipment issues promptly to service leadership.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
