Job summary

The Great Lakes Construction Co. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Painter (Operating Engineers Union position) to prepare, repair, and refinish heavy construction equipment, trucks, and trailers.

You will work in the shop applying primers and coatings, operating spray systems, and ensuring corrosion protection and professional appearance. Responsibilities include surface prep, sandblasting, metal repair, coating application, maintain safety, assist with light fabrication, and help with estimating

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• 5+ years of heavy equipment or industrial painting experience.
• Experience with blasting, coatings, and metal repair; estimating experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support safety, quality, and efficiency in the shop.
• Operate and maintain paint booths, spray equipment, sandblasting equipment, and other tools.
• Prepare heavy equipment for painting through cleaning, sanding, masking, blasting, and surface prep.
• Repair minor dents and damaged metal surfaces.
• Assist with light metal fabrication and restoration projects.
• Apply primers, paints, and coatings using conventional, HVLP, or other spray systems.
• Inspect surfaces for adhesion and finish quality, ensuring corrosion protection and professional appearance.
• Maintain paint inventories and proper storage of hazardous materials.
• Collaborate with mechanics and project teams to prioritize work and minimize downtime.
