Responsibilities

  • Support safety, quality, and efficiency commitments.

  • Apply primers, paints, and coatings using HVLP, airless, and other spray systems.

  • Maintain paint inventories and safely store hazardous materials.

Job description

JOB PURPOSE

The Heavy Equipment Painter is responsible for preparing, repairing, and refinishing heavy construction equipment, trucks, trailers, and related components using industrial painting and coating systems. This role performs a variety of tasks including surface preparation, sandblasting, metal repair, grinding, and coating application to ensure equipment is protected from corrosion, meets quality standards, and maintains a professional appearance. Working closely with the shop and maintenance teams, the Heavy Equipment Painter supports equipment restoration and repair projects by performing industrial spray painting, assisting with light metal fabrication, and contributing to estimating and job costing activities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support and uphold the company’s commitment to safety, quality, efficiency, and core values
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies
  • Safely operate and maintain paint booths, spray equipment, sandblasting equipment, compressors, and other shop tools
  • Prepare heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and related components for painting through cleaning, sanding, masking, blasting, grinding, and other surface preparation techniques
  • Repair minor dents, corrosion, and damaged metal surfaces through grinding, welding preparation, body filler application, and other fabrication support as needed
  • Assist with light metal fabrication, component repair, and restoration projects to prepare equipment for refinishing
  • Perform abrasive blasting and apply industrial primers, paints, and protective coatings using conventional, HVLP, airless, and other approved spray systems
  • Mix, match, and apply coatings in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company quality standards
  • Inspect prepared and painted surfaces to ensure proper adhesion, finish quality, and compliance with company standards.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure a high-quality finish that protects equipment from corrosion and presents a professional appearance
  • Maintain paint inventories, supplies, and equipment while ensuring proper storage and handling of hazardous materials
  • Perform preventive maintenance on painting and blasting equipment to ensure reliable operation
  • Collaborate with mechanics, shop personnel, and project teams to prioritize work and minimize equipment downtime
  • Assist with estimating, quoting, and job costing for painting and refinishing projects

QUALIFICATIONS
  • EDUCATION:
    • High School Diploma
EXPERIENCE
  • 5+ years of heavy equipment or industrial painting experience
  • Experience with blasting, coatings, and metal repair
  • Estimating experience preferred

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position, and the work week for employees is normally considered 40 hours Monday through Friday. Flexibility is required to support time-sensitive issues as they arise. However, greater emphasis is placed on meeting the responsibilities assigned to this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The majority of the work is performed in a non-smoking shop environment. The position requires working around heavy construction equipment, industrial painting and sandblasting equipment, and power tools in both indoor and outdoor settings. Employees may be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, paint, solvents, varying weather conditions, and other industrial hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Occasional travel to project sites or other company locations may be necessary.

Employees must have the ability to:

  • Sit (or stand) for prolonged periods of time
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally bend, twist, squat, and kneel
  • Occasionally walk up and down the stairs
  • Demonstrate visual acuity with or without corrected vision
  • Demonstrate hearing acuity with or without corrected hearing
  • Must be able to walk outdoor construction sites with uneven terrain and obstacles
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions
