Job summary

The University of Rhode Island in Kingston is seeking a Heavy Motor Equipment Operator. You will operate, maintain and repair a range of heavy construction equipment and ensure proper servicing including fuel, oil and grease. A valid RI Commercial Driver's License is required.

Work hours are 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with duties in the Recycling Department and potential light vehicle operation as needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of state laws pertaining to operation of motor vehicles on highways.
• Experience operating heavy diesel and gasoline motor equipment.
• Ability to perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on heavy equipment.
• Familiarity with general construction and maintenance methods for highways.
• Must possess RI Commercial Driver's License as required.

Responsibilities

• Operate, adjust, service and maintain a variety of heavy construction equipment (bulldozers, graders, road rollers, etc.).
• Report needed repairs and keep equipment clean and properly serviced (fuel, oil, grease, water, air).
• Occasionally perform emergency minor repairs and operate light vehicles when required.
• May supervise or direct one or more laborers as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.
