Job summary

RI Council 94 is seeking a Highway Maintenance Operator I to perform skilled operation of a variety of equipment for state highway maintenance and repair in Rhode Island. Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM with on-call shifts, the role emphasizes safety, proper vehicle operation, and adherence to DOT rules.

Salary range reflects DOT pay grade and benefits. Responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, performing routine maintenance, and supporting bridge and pavement programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Experience operating highway maintenance equipment over 26,000 lbs GVW with airbrakes and manual transmissions.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and be on call during emergencies.
• Must obtain and maintain RI CDL Class B with airbrake and tanker endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy trucks, tractors, basin cleaners, mowers, and support equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and equipment servicing.
• Assist in snow, ice control, and road/bridge maintenance tasks.
