Job summary

Rhode Island Department of Transportation is seeking a Highway Maintenance Operator I to perform skilled operation of self-propelled equipment for highway maintenance and repair. The role includes handling snow and ice control, sign installation, and general site maintenance across multiple RI facilities.

Schedule is Monday–Friday 7:00 AM–3:30 PM with on-call shifts; salary range listed, CDL required within three months. Locations include East Providence, Portsmouth, and Smithfield facilities.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a senior high school.
• Experience operating highway maintenance heavy equipment (>26,000 lbs GVW with airbrakes and manual transmissions).

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy trucks, tractors, basin cleaners, mowers, and related support equipment.
• Maintain safety by following rules and conducting safety-sensitive duties.
• Install and maintain highway signs and markers as directed.
